Poetry. When we think of poetry, various adjectives come to our mind. Beautiful, mesmerizing, refreshing, deep, sentimental and so forth. But we fail to recognize the true beauty of poetry.

Poetry has many forms and each is a unique combination of thoughts and feelings compiled in a verse. A poem written straight from the heart fails to be ugly.

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.

Robert Frost

Poets reveal their true nature in their poems. What a poet writes is a reflection of who they are. Every line, every stanza allows us a glimpse into the poet’s personality. Though sometimes this is not intentional. The subconscious mind has its hand here. Often, some poems are not appreciated as the ideas seem to be extremely vague. But that’s exactly what the human mind is. Vague and mysterious. The poet’s work is to reflect the human mind in their poems.

Poetry is an art form. Art is always admired for what it stands for. Yet sometimes, we don’t understand the deep meaning behind the words. The subtle sarcasm, the unnoticed taunt, the message behind the ideology. Poetry is meant to be enjoyed as well as analyzed. Yet you can never be sure if your analysis is accurate and this just beautifies poetry even further.

Many teenagers turn to poetry after their first heartbreak. Some start writing poems of their own while some prefer reading them. Ahh! How beautiful right? That poetry is a way for people to escape the sorrows of life. Poetry helps them recover. It gives them a sense of belonging and a sense of refreshment. Poetry provides a comfort that life is full of beauty and has many joys.

A poem heals the soul,

A poem helps the mind,

The beauty of poetry,

You must find.

Famous poets such a Keats, Frost, Lewis have spoken about nature through their poetry. They have connected aspects of nature with life and formed them into beautiful verses.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
and miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Robert Frost

Everyone is aware of the beauty natures hold. Yet not everyone perceives it in the same manner. Poetry shows us a different perception of the very idea of beauty.

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
IT’S lovliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep

A Thing of Beauty

John Keats

It helps us to make connections between nature and life, between our emotions and our actions. Poetry helps an individual to grow. While poetry can be fun-loving and cheerful, it can also be regretful and full of sorrow. Often, these various moods exist within the same poem. Once again, this is a reflection of the human mind. Our mind goes through various emotions in a day and while we experience them at different times, they co-exist. In poetry, the moods exist within the same poem yet we experience them at different stages while reading.

Poetry is one of the most beautiful forms of literature. It is an art form which is birthed by thoughts and emotions and brought up through creativity. That is the true beauty of poetry.
