She is getting thinner day by day, she seems crankier day by day, she is becoming quieter day by day- these are the things her parents noticed, but they failed to notice her shattered eyes. All she heard is “you are going to be fine”,
“Everything is going to be okay”, and “don’t be a spoiled brat”
He is losing focus, he is not hanging out with his friends anymore, his thoughts are choking his throat and want to come out of his eyes, but hush! hush! you are a boy and you are not allowed to cry, society will mark you weak. You are a boy you are not allowed to be emotional and share your sad feelings, boys are meant to be strong!
And there are many other untold stories just roaming around us with expressionless eyes and we are too busy in double tapping on someone else whom we don’t even know. The people are different, the age and gender are different, the situations are different and obviously the reasons are different but the problem? The problem is same- Depression.
Depression is a mental health condition that is an overwhelming feeling of sadness and isolation which affects human mind’s thinking and fills it with negativity. And that is a really tough stage to be in. In this generation, we see depression is very common. And it is treatable through proper treatment and therapy. We often just scorn depression by saying “its just a phase” and “they will be fine”, yeah they will be fine but not without our help. At these times they don’t need your advice, they need your ear which is eager to hear their thoughts and feelings, they need your shoulder to lean and your hand to hold them and make them believe that you are there to help them in this helpless situation and you will help them to defeat this depression. Make them believe that they not alone. As the famous author, Shannon L. Alder says, “Never give up on someone with a mental illness. When “I” is replaced by “We”, illness becomes wellness.” All that patient need is a help.
