Artificial Intelligence & It’s Effect On Us:

Artificial intelligence or AI is one of the most trending technology in the world. So what is artificial intelligence? Artificial intelligence is intelligence demonstrated by machines, in contrast to the natural intelligence displayed by humans and other animals. So we can say it is basically an alternative system that can interact with the human in a humanoid way.

Now it is a broad topic to discuss. We are here going to discuss certain aspects of it & its prime uses in our lifestyle.

Origin:

Basically in 60’s a group of scientists at MIT came up with a project on machine optimization. And both U. S & British Government funded this research in their respective centers. But those scientists couldn’t deliver what they promised. So for next 20 years, they shifted their focus from this field. Next, in 1980 this project once again came upon the table & this time technology adapt it greatly. Gradually big tech companies all over the world started using it in logistics, data mining & data analysis. From now it is just improved & updated step by step.

Initial Application:

The first visible application is IBM’s Watson project which defeated two quiz champion of that time. Apple also used it greatly in their gadgets. In iPhone, we first get its application with its voice assistant Siri. Siri was a worldwide success in following accurate voice commands. Other tech giants like Google, Microsoft & Facebook are being greatly inspired by this success. Next, they introduced their respective search assistant as Crotona & Google assistant.

Applications:

AI is relevant to any intellectual task. Modern artificial intelligence techniques are pervasive and are too numerous to list here. Frequently, when a technique reaches mainstream use, it is no longer considered artificial intelligence; this phenomenon is described as the AI effect.

High-profile examples of AI include autonomous vehicles (such as drones and self-driving cars), medical diagnosis, creating art (such as poetry), proving mathematical theorems, playing games (such as Chess or Go), search engines (such as Google search), online assistants (such as Siri), image recognition in photographs, spam filtering, prediction of judicial decisions and targeting online advertisements.

 

Healthcare:

Artificial intelligence is breaking into the healthcare industry by assisting doctors. According to Bloomberg Technology, Microsoft has developed AI to help doctors find the right treatments for cancer. There is a great amount of research and drugs developed relating to cancer. In detail, there are more than 800 medicines and vaccines to treat cancer. This negatively affects the doctors, because there are too many options to choose from, making it more difficult to choose the right drugs for the patients.

Microsoft is working on a project to develop a machine called “Hanover”. Its goal is to memorize all the papers necessary to cancer and help predict which combinations of drugs will be most effective for each patient. One project that is being worked on at the moment is fighting myeloid leukaemia, fatal cancer where the treatment has not improved in decades. Another study has found that artificial intelligence is as good as trained doctors in identifying skin cancers.

 

Vehicles & Transport:

AI have contributed to the growth of the automotive industry through the creation and evolution of self-driving vehicles. As of 2016, there are over 30 companies utilizing AI into the creation of driver less cars. A few companies involved with AI include TeslaGoogle, and Apple.

Many components contribute to the functioning of self-driving cars. These vehicles incorporate systems such as braking, lane changing, collision prevention, navigation and mapping. Together, these systems, as well as high-performance computers, are integrated into one complex vehicle

In video games, artificial intelligence is routinely used to generate dynamic purposeful behavior in non-player characters (NPCs). In addition, well-understood AI techniques are routinely used for path finding. Some researchers consider NPC AI in games to be a “solved problem” for most production tasks. Games with more atypical AI include the AI director of Left 4 Dead (2008) and the neuroevolutionary training of platoons in Supreme Commander 2 (2010).Video Games.

Defense:

Worldwide annual military spending on robotics rose from 5.1 billion USD in 2010 to 7.5 billion USD in 2015. Military drones capable of autonomous action are widely considered a useful asset. In 2017, Vladimir Putin stated that “Whoever becomes the leader in (artificial intelligence) will become the ruler of the world”. Many artificial intelligence researchers seek to distance themselves from military applications of AI.

From these examples, we can clearly see that how over the years AI has improvised our lifestyle. But some concern also grows around it, like as companies being dependent over technology thousands of workers lose their jobs. Also over dependency on technology bring down our overall energy level makes us lazy & comfort seeker. It also affects our human nature as we started to believe technology over our near ones.

So technology will keep improving but we all have to maintain a certain limit to avoid its undesirable effects on us. We all have to remember one thing that AI is just one of the tool science gives us, but it’s us who can define whether it will use in a good or bad cause.
